BeoVision MX 8000

BeoVision MX 8000

BeoVision MX8000 – original concept endures while technologies change

“Whereas the MX TVs we produce today look the same on the outside as those we produced in the mid-1980s, they are completely different on the inside”, states Torben Ballegaard Sørensen, Bang & Olufsen President and CEO.

BeoVision MX8000 is a 66cm (viewable screen) television and was introduced in October 2002 as a replacement for BeoVision MX6000 and MX7000.

Based around the BeoVision 1 chassis, BeoVision MX8000 is brought up-to-date with the following options: Master Link (either as Master or Slave), RF Modulator (if used as Beolink® master), Set-Top Box Controller (with full on-screen graphics), Anti-Reflex coated contrast screen and Dolby Digital Surround Sound (including DTS). A camcorder connection is placed below the screen where the manual control on previous MX televisions was situated.

Big sound
In 1984, when the MX range was introduced with BeoVision M20 (the forerunner of BeoVision MX2000), TV sound was produced by passive log-line loudspeakers, producing either stereo or mono sound. Whether coming from a television programme or VHS, Betamax or Video 2000 VCR, it was only experienced as coming from the TV itself. Today, multi-channel surround sound systems provide enveloping sonic experiences in the home. Back then the user listened to two 7-watt speakers in the TV itself. Today six powerful active speakers are becoming more and more popular.

In 2002, important dialogue emerges from the powerful active loudspeakers which, following the original MX design, are sill located directly below the screen. Thanks to Bang & Olufsen’s active loudspeaker technologies, BeoVision MX 8000 delivers a sound pressure level capable of equalling many hi-fi systems. Multi-channel sound experiences covered too, as the build-in multi-channel digital surround sound module allows the connection of several external BeoLab loudspeakers, such as the BeoLab 8000 or BeoLab 6000. Big bass effects remind you of a trip to the cinema once you’ve connected a BeoLab 2 subwoofer, an 850-watt low-frequency producer to highlight the thrills and spills of a large-screen auditorium.

Features & placement:
“With the BeoVision MX range, television becomes a versatile feature that assimilates into your home and lifestyle.”

BeoVision MX makes TV a discreet part of your interior decoration. Uncompromising sound and picture quality come as standard. With the BeoVision MX range, television becomes a versatile feature that blends into your home and lifestyle.

BeoVision MX TVs fit where they’re wanted. BeoVision MX 8000 is ideally suited for standing alone or being used on a motorised stand.

Sound Quality

TV sound is driven by powerful 40 watt active stereo loudspeakers.

Surround sound

The Dolby® Digital surround sound module is a new optional feature that allows the MX 8000’s existing speakers to act as centre channel in a surround sound setup.

Connections

Connections to Bang & Olufsen’s DVD 1 and Beocord V8000 VCR are undertaken simply and easily; BeoVision MX 8000 also features the ability to serve as a Beolink® master, distributing sound and picture throughout the home. Operation takes place via the Beo4 remote control.

There are three placement options – a stand (with optional shelf for DVD 1 or Beocord V8000 – as in above picture), a motorised floor stand and a motorised base. It also has its own in-built stand to tilt back the set (as in BeoVision MX4000/4002).

BeoVision MX8000 Press Release – October 2002

Bang & Olufsen launches 18-year old TV – Original concept endures whilst technologies change

“The device appears as a well-formed cabinet from the front. From the rear, the encapsulation of the picture tube is so well done that the device may be enjoyed from all angles. The stacked-build of the device makes it possible to place it in a corner… Technically it contains many new functions, including the integration of a contrast screen that reduces disturbances from incoming light.”

So wrote The Danish Design Council when presenting their 1986 ID prize for exceptional design to David Lewis and Bang & Olufsen for the BeoVision MX 2000. Launched in season 1984/85 as BeoVision M20, the basic conceptual elements of the BeoVision MX exist virtually unchanged today.

Now in 2002, many similar words could be used when describing the 30th member of the BeoVision MX family, BeoVision MX 8000. The 28″ model features the latest technologies of today within sound and picture reproduction; including an optional 5.1 channel digital surround sound module and Bang & Olufsen’s own VisionClear system.

Sharp picture
On the screen, the blue waters and green rainforests of the tropics appear as truly blue and green, rather than shades of a similar colour. Bang & Olufsen’s patented picture quality elements, known collectively as VisionClear, ensure your visual experience contains the correct balance of sharpness, brightness, saturation and black level, allowing you to enjoy the programme instead of fiddling with the settings. The optional anti-reflection coated contrast screen, mounted in front of the picture tube, reduces the amount of incoming light by up to 99%, ensuring that you’re not disturbed by unwanted shadows or reflections.

Possibilities provide freedom
Another central element to the MX concept is modularity. Numerous placement, connection and build-in possibilities combine to offer a large degree of freedom within the same concept. Either standing freely on the floor, placed on a dresser or on a motorised stand, your BeoVision MX 8000 can show up where you prefer, rather than dictating where it should be placed.

Connecting to Bang & Olufsen’s DVD 1 and Beocord V8000 videotape recorder takes place simply and easily, and BeoVision MX 8000 also features the ability to serve as a Beolink® master, distributing sound and picture throughout the home in B&O’s popular distribution system. Operation of all products takes place via the Beo4 remote control.

BeoVision 6-22

BeoVision 6-22

BeoVision 6 – 22 is an LCD 16:9 TV set introduced on 10 November 2003. It is fitted with a 51cm (diagonal) LCD screen which is coated similar to the Avant. Active speakers are positioned at the base of the monitor, similar to the MX range of television sets. The rear of the unit is curved, similar to that of BeoSound 1.

The unit is available in one colour only – Black – and is primarily designed for link-rooms: i.e. as an extra set for the kitchen or bedroom.

BeoVision 6 – 22 may be fitted with a motorised base which turns the set and also regulates the inclination. Standing possibilities include a low floor stand similar to BeoVision 5, wall bracket or a high floor stand high (as with BeoVision 1).

This new LCD TV can be used as a PC monitor, too. When watching normal TV programmes, ‘TV’ on the Beo4 is selected; however, by combining the BeoVision 6 to your PC as a monitor via the rear-mounted DVI socket (see further details at BeoTech) and selecting ‘PC’ on the remote control, BeoVision 6 may be used in conjunction with your home computer.

In 2004 BeoVision 6-26 was introduced to complement this 51cm model.

Press release Struer – November 2003
BeoVision 6 does away with the limits to LCD technology

Bang & Olufsen’s first LCD television is compact, simple and can be placed anywhere. And it also gives a sharp picture, no matter where you are in the room.

A compact television that can be placed… well, where there isn’t any space. A television that can hang on the wall or stand on a chest of drawers, and that can be tilted and turned in all directions – that is the idea behind BeoVision 6 from Bang & Olufsen.

BeoVision 6 is the first television based on LCD technology offered by Bang & Olufsen.

“Nevertheless, LCD technology has been extremely interesting to Bang & Olufsen ever since it came on the market, because it fits in perfectly with our philosophy of compact, simple and stylish televisions – televisions that don’t visually dominate the room you’ve put them in. But not until now has the technology been mature enough for both the image quality and durability to measure up to Bang & Olufsen’s standards,” says President and CEO Torben Ballegaard Sørensen.

A range of technologies patented by Bang & Olufsen, such as Adaptive Black, Motion Adapted Progressive Scan and Digital Adaptive Luminance Peaking, put this LCD monitor in shape to deliver the image quality the company is known for. See the appendix “VisionClear”.

Fits in anywhere
One of the biggest problems of LCD technology has been the restricted viewing angle – in other words, the image is not visible if you look at the screen from an oblique angle. Although LCD technology has made considerable progress in this area, too, Bang & Olufsen’s engineers were still not satisfied.

“Our ambition was to create a television that you could hang somewhere like the kitchen wall. And it would be no good if you could only enjoy it if you were seated at the dining table, and couldn’t see the picture if you stood at the worktop,” explains Sørensen.

The solution was to equip the BeoVision 6 with a range of stands and wall fittings that make it easy both to turn the television from side to side and to tilt it up and down. The tilt function was a challenge to Bang & Olufsen’s developers. The first prototypes were either too clumsy and complicated or they were too difficult to operate. When the answer occurred one day to one of Bang & Olufsen’s engineers, it was so simple that it was difficult to understand why nobody had thought of it before.

A design that allows the television to revolve around its own centre of gravity is both simple and discreet – and at the same time it makes it possible to tilt a television weighing 18 kilos at the push of a finger. The rear of the BeoVision 6 is curved. Visually, this makes it appear even flatter than it is in reality, and at the same time its curved shape makes it possible to turn the television through greater angles, both on and off the wall.

The sound is half the experience
It has always been Bang & Olufsen’s philosophy that the sound is half the experience of a television. For this reason, equal effort has been put into sound and picture in the BeoVision 6. The slightly slanting sound panel under the screen contains two 7,5cm bass reflector speakers and an ingeniously designed bass port. This integrated speaker system gives BeoVision 6 what it takes to deliver a stereo sound that surprises most people!

Press release Struer – November 2003
VisionClear

Bang & Olufsen brings together objective parameters of image quality with subjective elements of viewing comfort into a combined whole, in which the perceived image is unsurpassed. At Bang & Olufsen, the designation VisionClear means that image quality and viewing comfort are inseparable. The exceptionally high image quality is achieved by elements such as Motion Adaptive Progressive Scan, Adaptive Luminance Peaking, Colour Transient Improvement (CTI) and Adaptive Black.

The further development of Bang & Olufsen’s own Adaptive Luminance Peaking system increases the image quality further by reinforcing powerful fields of light in relation to the change in light signal present in the image. This function strengthens large light shifts proportionally less than small ones, resulting in amore uniform visual experience. The Colour Transient Improvement used in BeoVision 6 also ensures a high degree of dimensional precision.

How black is black?
The correct level of black is ensured through the use of advanced Adaptive Black hardware. The right colour setting is obtained by allowing BeoVision 6 to adjust the light automatically while the television is in use. The electronics “read” the image on the screen and automatically increase the colours if the image is very pale, while the technology prevents black details from gradually turning grey during image shift.

Screen, user, surroundings
By focusing on a number of elements, viewing comfort – which involves an interplay between screen, user and surroundings – is accorded a high priority. Automatic image control sensors meter the background light in the room where the television is located, and ensure the best possible image at all light levels. A special anti-reflection-treated contrast screen also reduces the effect of external light incidence by over 80%. The result is that the contrast is markedly improved, which in turn provides a richer screen colour experience. Elements such as Hollywood-like electronic curtains, that open and close automatically, and Active Image Format Optimisation (in which the current screen image is automatically scanned and the best image format then presented on the screen) are included to add extra dimensions to the viewing experience. BeoVision 6 also uses digital noise reduction to decrease the noise in the image.

Mounting Options & Stands
The tilt table mount was available for counter top mounting, designed to allow the bass port on the underside of the TV to ‘breath’. Motorised floor and table stands were complimented by a wall mount bracket which gave manual tilt and turn

BeoVision 6-26

BeoVision 6-26

BeoVision 6 – 26 is a flat 26″ widescreen television based on LCD technology. It is the second member of the BeoVision 6 family and holds all the virtues and conceptual elements of the current 22” version. This new model is provided with the newer – Mark III version of the Beo4 remote control.

LCD technology makes it possible to offer a television that combines an extremely slim depth with an outstanding picture quality. Complemented by a powerful integrated loudspeaker system the 26″ widescreen makes BeoVision 6 – 26 very suitable as a main room television which can function as a Beolink master and even as master unit in a home-cinema setup.

The compact and flat design makes BeoVision 6 – 26 a very flexible television which will fit most homes. With a broad and unique stand selection, the user is offered great freedom in placing the TV to blend in with most environments.

BeoVision 6 – 26 Press Release September 2004
Bang & Olufsen has now released the BeoVision 6 – 26 television, the newest addition to the BeoVision 6 family. With a 26” widescreen, a powerful loudspeaker system, and the option of a digital surround sound module, the BeoVision 6 – 26 can fill the role as a main room television, and yet at only 18 cm deep, still offers the flexibility and versatility of the smaller 22” BeoVision 6 – 22.

“The BeoVision 6 idea is for an elegant and simple plug-and-play television concept that integrates picture and sound in a compact cabinet, designed to integrate easily into your home,” says Torben Ballegård Sørensen, CEO, Bang & Olufsen and adds: “The BeoVision 6 – 26 has a bigger screen and optional surround sound, and those who wish to experience the BeoVision 6 idea as their home cinema can now do so.”

The flexible TV
In addition to connections for BeoLab loudspeakers, external entertainment sources and earphones, the BeoVision 6 – 26 television offers digital interface with a PC. It can also enter into any home system with all Beolink-enabled Bang & Olufsen products. Beolink is Bang & Olufsen’s unique home integration system, based on the principle of ‘move and share the experience – not the equipment’, with everything controlled by the Beo4 remote control.

The 26” widescreen LCD monitor and the two-way active stereo loudspeakers positioned full-length below the screen are placed against a frame of brushed aluminium. The curved rear of the cabinet is coated in a resilient black soft-touch lacquer, making the BeoVision 6 – 26 television attractive to look at from all angles.

A complete viewing and listening experience
Bang & Olufsen’s VisionClear picture competences ensure the best possible picture from the LCD monitor in all situations. VisionClear covers a range of technologies that the viewer experiences in the form of greater viewing comfort, but hardly notices.

BeoVision 6 – 26 represents the complete application of VisionClear. When BeoVision 6 – 26 is switched on, the TV automatically adjusts contrast levels, brilliance and colour to match the current light conditions – and will carry on doing so until the television is switched off again. The anti-reflection coating on the contrast screen reduces significantly the effect of incoming light on the screen. The dark-tinted contrast screen in front of the LCD monitor makes the screen darker when not showing an image.

At Bang & Olufsen, the listening experience is considered as important as the viewing experience. The compact, two-way active stereo loudspeakers are placed attractively under the picture and indicate a strong sound performance. The BeoVision 6 – 26 television offers the viewer a superior home cinema listening experience when used with any BeoLab loudspeakers, with the television’s loudspeakers functioning as a powerful mono centre loudspeaker.

Place it anywhere
The many placement options complement the compact design perfectly. The motorised turn function on the floor and table stand is controlled from the Beo4 remote control, turning the television towards the viewer, and reducing the viewing angle. The manual tilt mechanism also contributes to the best possible viewing conditions and means the BeoVision 6 – 26 can be placed at the height that suits best on the floor, table, or wall.

“A genuine Bang & Olufsen product is more than the sum of the parts that went into its manufacture. The comprehensive stand programme, to name but one example, provides more than placement flexibility for BeoVision 6 – 26; it also changes the identity of the television, depending on where and how the television is used,” concludes Torben Ballegård Sørensen.

Founded in 1925 in Struer, Denmark, Bang & Olufsen a/s is world renowned for its distinctive range of quality consumer electronic products that represent our vision: Courage to constantly question the ordinary in search of surprising, long-lasting experiences.

BeoVision 5 – Plasma

BeoVision 5 - Plasma

BeoVision 5 was Bang & Olufsen’s first home cinema plasma screen.

With its big screen, advanced sound system, original positioning options and sophisticated remote control, the BeoVision 5 sets the standard for plasma solutions, especially when it comes to integration in the home. Until the discovery of plasma technology, the idea of having a TV screen hanging on the wall was restricted to the realm of science fiction films. Now the dream has become a reality, and Bang & Olufsen has brought it one step closer by offering a plasma solution that is more than just a “picture on the wall”.

BeoVision 5 is the natural choice for people wanting to combine large-scale audio-visual experiences with a high degree of flexibility in the positioning of the TV screen. All of Bang & Olufsen’s expertise in picture handling and screen technology has been deployed in order to improve the already sharp picture from the big 42-inch screen of BeoVision 4. Brushed aluminium encases both the screen and a special integrated active loudspeaker reproducing high-quality stereo sound.

As a result, BeoVision 5 does not require any additional equipment to fulfil the standards that Bang & Olufsen is renowned for. BeoVision 5 can also function as a centre for distributing sounds and pictures throughout the house via Bang & Olufsen’s unique distribution system: ‘Beolink®’.

BeoVision 5 works with the entire range of Beolink® products and can also connect with the Bang & Olufsen DVD 1 and the Beocord V8000 video recorder. All products can be operated with the Beo4 remote control.

The positioning is quite something, too. Imagine brushed aluminium, gathered at 45-degree angles at the corners, surrounding both the plasma screen and the sound system. Inspired by classical art, it can be hung on the wall in its entirety as a single object -just like a picture in a gallery. However, a TV that hangs on the wall is not intended to represent the ultimate in mobility for some users who prefer greater freedom in their options for their personal home décor. Should it be positioned in the middle of the room on a base? Should the base be motorised so that you can rotate the television from your armchair using the remote control? What about a drawer system in the same design to conceal the DVD player, satellite receiver or video recorder? Or what about leaning the television against the wall, if you don’t want to hang it up? Everything has been thought of!

BeoVision 5 is a unique 108cm (42 “) plasma home cinema concept from Bang & Olufsen. With its obvious associations to the art-of-painting, this plasma master is truly a work of art in itself. This is reflected in its outstanding design affording the user many different placement and colour options. The design of BeoVision 5 was orchestrated by David Lewis, Bang & Olufsen’s chief designer.

The combination of a a high quality plasma display and Bang & Olufsen’s competences in video signal processing means that the picture on BeoVision 5 is the best in the industry. Its advanced sound system, using B&O’s active loudspeaker technology, provides a sonic experience that perfectly matches the outstanding quality of the picture. The built- in loudspeakers, placed below the screen, function as both a centre channel when used in a surround sound set up or as a superb stereo sound system when the BeoVision 5 is used as a stand alone TV.

Operationally, BeoVision 5 has much in common with the BeoVision Avant which means that it can be a system master, together with an audio system to distribute picture and sound around the house.

Picture and Sound Quality merge exquisitely in the new BeoVision 5 from Bang & Olufsen. Containing a striking 108cm 16:9 plasma screen and a pair of powerful built-in active loudspeakers, BeoVision 5 is framed elegantly in your choice of five shades of brushed anodised aluminium. Years of Bang & Olufsen expertise unite these fields to prove that the beauty also has brains.

The screen
With its large screen, advanced sound system, original placement possibilities and multifaceted Bang & Olufsen virtues within operation, BeoVision 5 sets new standards for plasma solutions, not least regarding integration into the home environment

Until the advent of plasma technologies, the idea of hanging a television set on the wall has been confined to the realm of science fiction films. Now that the dream has become reality, Bang & Olufsen takes this possibility a step further by offering a plasma solution that encompasses much more than a simple ‘picture on the wall’. BeoVision 5 is therefore a natural choice for people wishing to combine great viewing and listening sessions with flexibility in placement.

The frame
All Bang & Olufsen picture competencies are utilised to enhance the already razor sharp image of the large plasma screen. The 16:9 picture tops a pair of integrated active loudspeakers offering an enveloping stereo sound built with all the acoustic competencies for which Bang & Olufsen is known. As a result, BeoVision 5 does not require additional equipment to measure up sound- and picture-wise to demanding Bang & Olufsen standards. Furthermore, BeoVision 5 can serve as a Beolink® master, distributing sound and picture throughout the home in Bang & Olufsen’s unique distribution system. Full compatibility with all Beolink®-enabled Bang & Olufsen products is included, as well as seamless connections with Bang & Olufsen’s DVD 1 and Beocord V8000 VCR. Operation of all Bang & Olufsen items is carried out using the Beo4 remote control.

The placement
Offering a selection of brackets and stands, Bang & Olufsen offers a multitude of placement possibilities for BeoVision 5.

The sound
Featuring a pair of active loudspeakers located directly below the plasma screen, BeoVision 5 can provide up to 96 dB of stereo sound on its own. A built-in Dolby Digital® surround sound decoder offers a wealth of sonic experiences – and even includes automatic detection of this 5.1 channel digital sound format.

Connect any active loudspeakers from Bang & Olufsen’s BeoLab range, and be moved by the deep bass and tingling highs found in today’s digital entertainment offerings. Let your home cinema experience be led by the BeoLab 2 subwoofer, a double balanced passive radiator system where an 850 W ICEpower® amplifier (Long Term Maximum Output Power), supplies the fuel for the single active 22cm woofer and two 22cm passive radiators..

The many facets of BeoVision 5 plasma TV
VisionClear elements shine through

Once again Bang & Olufsen has succeeded in combining the objective parameters of picture quality and the subjective elements of viewing comfort to provide an extensive and enveloping viewing experience.

An exceptionally high level of Picture Quality is achieved through the employment of elements including motion compensated progressive scan, Digital Adaptive Luminance Peaking, Digital Colour Transient Improvement (CTI) and adaptive black. Presenting all horizontal lines at once, the BeoVision 5 digital interpolation system eliminates disturbing motion artefacts caused by viewing an interlaced scan on a large screen. By calculating object movement in pixels per field, new pictures are interpolated according to object motion.

Further development of Bang & Olufsen’s own Digital Adaptive Luminance Peaking circuitry adds additionally to the Picture Quality by amplifying the peaking according to the level of luminance shifts present. This purely digital function peaks large luminance shifts proportionally less than small shifts, providing a uniform visual experience. Furthermore, the wideband Digital CTI employed in BeoVision 5 assures a high degree of dimensional precision thanks to a gentler amplification than compared to standard CTI circuits.

How black is black?
Maintaining a proper black level is ensured by the employment of advanced adaptive black circuitry. Correct colour saturation is assured as the brilliance level is automatically adjusted during viewing by BeoVision 5. Reading the content of the current on-screen image, BeoVision 5 automatically increases colour saturation on very light images on the one hand, whilst keeping black details from drifting into grey upon a content shift.

The screen, the user, the surroundings
The field of Viewing Comfort, which involves the interactions between the screen, the user and the surroundings receives great attention through a number of elements. Automatic Picture Control sensors found in the striking “magic eye” found on the top right-hand corner of the BeoVision 5 monitors the amount of ambient light in the room and ensures the best possible picture quality under all lighting situations.

A special dark coloured anti-reflection coated contrast screen also reduces amount of incoming light by more than 80%. The resulting increase in contrast provides a richer on-screen colour experience. Enticing elements such as Hollywood-like electronic curtains, which automatically open and close and Active Picture Format Optimisation, where the transmission signal is read and the optimal picture format is presented automatically additionally highlight the user experience.

Adaptive Bass Linearisation
Protection against low-frequency damage at a high volume level is provided for all Bang & Olufsen BeoLab speakers by Bang & Olufsen’s patented Adaptive Bass Linearisation (ABL) circuitry. ABL monitors the displacement of the loudspeaker units and reduces the output level if any risk of mechanical damage arises. The ABL circuit has very fast attack- and release times for optimum protection and sound performance.

Furthermore, both the BeoLab 2 and the BeoLab 1 loudspeaker feature patented thermal protection circuitry which guards against overheating and burn-out by monitoring the physical temperature of the woofer. An NTC resistor mounted on the rear of the magnet system in combination with a sophisticated simulation of the voice coil temperature triggers an automatic reduction of output if the temperature should exceed the critical level.

Standard features: MasterLink, Picture-in-Picture, Set top box controller, RF Modulator, Dolby Digital Surround Sound (which also supports Dolby Pro Logic Surround Sound) and DTS (Digital Theatre System).

Dimensions: The active speakers within BeoVision 5 are the same as the latest (2002) model of the BeoVision Avant. The unit is 17cm wide at the bottom and around 10cm at the top of its 1,10m frame. It leans 9 degrees back and rests (when placed on the floor) on three small metal feet.

Cabinet
BeoVision 5 Cabinet (part number 1417759) has two drawers side-by-side for BeoVision 5 to stand on.

BeoVision 5 can be shaped and coloured in such a way as to complement its surroundings. The aluminium frame and front loudspeaker cover are delivered in the same colour combinations as BeoLab 1 : Metallic black, silver, red, green and blue. It can be positioned in one of several ways. On a floor stand at a 9 degree angle, on a wall bracket at two different heights and either parallel to the wall or at a 9 degree angle to the wall, on the floor on a cabinet which can house two units such as DVD 1, Beocord V8000 or a Set-Top Box, and finally on a motorised floor stand.

Positioning
Ideally BeoVision 5 should be set up with BeoLab 1’s in aluminium in the front with BeoLab 2 and BeoLab 6000’s in the rear. DVD 1 and Beocord V8000 should both be housed in the purpose built silver cabinet.

BeoVision 5 is therefore a natural choice for people.

Dimensions:
The active speakers within BeoVision 5 are the same as the latest (2002) model of the BeoVision Avant. The unit is 17cm wide at the bottom and around 10cm at the top of its 1,10m frame. It leans 9 degrees back and rests (when placed on the floor) on three small feet.
Both BeoVision 5 and BeoLab loudspeakers are available in a variety of colours (to match the colours of BeoLab 1) including red, black, aluminium, blue and green, which together offer a solution to suit both you and your interior décor.

Standard features: MasterLink, Picture-in-Picture, Set top box controller, RF Modulator, Dolby Digital Surround Sound (which also supports Dolby Pro Logic Surround Sound) and DTS (Digital Theatre System).

At the top of BeoVision 5 is a little plastic translucent dome which electronically surveys its surroundings. Not in the way of Big Brother – but in keeping a watchful eye on the light conditions in the room in which it is placed. It looks out for instructions from the Beo4 remote control and signals by either a red or green light dot if the television is switched either on or off. It also adjusts the picture according to the lighting conditions of the room itself: brightening the picture in a very bright room, or lowering its intensity in a darkened room. However, BeoVision 5 is not the first television to introduce this little dome. Beosystem AV9000, which was the first integrated AV system from Bang & Olufsen, accommodated it as well, placed in a similar position outside of the frame.

Beosystem AV9000 created a lot of attention in its time and was a breakthrough in home entertainment. But the dome created ill-feeling in that it challenged the expectations as to the general design of Bang & Olufsen products. It stood out in an unusual way. At the time of AV9000’s introduction there was a resistance movement challenging the company’s stance towards so much innovative, aesthetical design.

Ten years later it is a case of déjà vu. However, its reintroduction was proposed by the development team as an answer to a simple engineering problem.

BeoVision 5 Press Release
BeoVision 5 – Bang & Olufsen’s first plasma home-cinema solution

With a 107cm screen, advanced sound system and flexible placement possibilities, BeoVision 5 sets new standards for plasma technology and its integration into the home.

• A visual masterpiece

A sleek brushed aluminium frame, in a choice of six eye catching colours frames both screen and sound system, offering an integrated sound and picture plasma solution. Inspired by the world of classical art, both sound and image may be hung as one single item on the wall, like a painting in a gallery. However, BeoVision 5 has been designed with flexibility in mind and with the use of customised brackets and stands can be placed in a number of ways to suit individual interior set-ups.

Whether it be in the middle of the room on a motorised floor stand, so it turns towards your sofa via the remote control, leaning against the wall with an integrated drawer system to hide the DVD player and satellite receiver, or simply hanging flat against the wall, BeoVision 5 provides an outstanding home cinema experience.

• Superior Sound Quality

BeoVision 5’s 16:9, 107cm plasma screen sits on top of a pair of integrated active loudspeakers offering an enveloping stereo sound built with all the acoustic quality Bang & Olufsen is known for. BeoVision 5 is a Beolink® master product so can be connected seamlessly with all compatible Bang & Olufsen systems to distribute sound and picture throughout the home via the Beo4 remote control.

For the complete home cinema set-up, a powerful multi-channel digital surround sound experience can be created by linking BeoVision 5 to five active speakers from Bang & Olufsen’s extensive range. Both BeoVision 5 and BeoLab loudspeakers are available in a variety of colours, including red, black, aluminium, blue and green, which together offer a solution to suit both you and your interior décor.

BeoVision 4 – 42 Newsletter April 2004
In view of the general expansion of flat screens in the market, Bang & Olufsen is now strengthening its flat screen portfolio by launching BeoVision 4 – 42. BeoVision 4 – 42 is a modular flat screen home-cinema system master consisting of:

A 107cm plasma monitor for wall mounting (wall bracket included)

BeoSystem 2 – a master unit offering the customer a genuine Bang & Olufsen system master

an elegantly designed cabinet for placement of BeoSystem 2 and a separate box solution, e.g. DVD 1.

In line with our vision of constantly questioning the ordinary in search of surprising and long-lasting experiences, it is crucial for Bang & Olufsen to stand out. The mere offering of a plasma solution with a separate master unit is far from unique in the market today. Still, we put great value in differentiating Bang & Olufsen products from our competitors.

BeoVision 4 – 42 is differentiated by:
A true Bang & Olufsen visual expression and craftsmanship to the last detail with the aluminium frame on the monitor, the design of the cabinet and the possible combination with BeoLab loudspeakers, BeoVision 4 – 42 has a true Bang & Olufsen visual expression. This is characterised by an elegant design, an exquisite choice of materials and craftsmanship to the last detail.

The aluminium frame is mounted on a handmade mainframe made of steel. There are no visible screws or welding notches – even the screws are handmade in order to ensure a smooth surface and not disturb the visual expression. By means of our special surface treatment competences, we have achieved a beautiful yet robust surface of the aluminium on the frame and the cabinet.

BeoVision 4 – 42: a system master that offers freedom of application.

The BeoVision 4 – 42 solution offers not only sublime experiences in a home-cinema setup. It also is fully compatible with the Beolink® system and can work as a system master that distributes sound and/or picture to up to 16 rooms. BeoVision 4 – 42 is a modular system, it has a built-in Dolby® Digital/DTS® module, and it can be integrated with the entire BeoLab loudspeaker range, as well as with Bang & Olufsen audio and video products. There is only one cable between the monitor and the master unit which increases the placement flexibility. All this maximises the freedom of application – only your imagination sets the limits for a true Bang & Olufsen experience.

Easy operation – One remote
Despite the possibility of integrating BeoVision 4 – 42 with many products and features, the operation is well-known and simple – based on one remote: Beo4. This is ensured via the IR-eye which is connected to BeoSystem 2. The built-in Set-top Box Controller is an example of the simplified operation principle of Bang & Olufsen; digital television can be received from a separate satellite box, but still operated with Beo4.

VisionClear – improved picture technologies
VisionClear is a concept developed by Bang & Olufsen that focuses on picture improvement technologies. Among the technologies is the peaking technology, which sharpens the picture by making a simulated contour around objects so that every detail stands out. There is a tendency in the market to overdo the peaking – so that the picture becomes unnaturally sharp. Bang & Olufsen focuses on creating a natural sharpness in the picture – therefore the picture is only peaked to a certain limit. The natural picture is moreover helped by noise reduction. As the peaking technology also makes noise more visible, a noise reduction circuit is incorporated in BeoVision 4 – 42 to compensate for the increased noise. This way BeoVision 4 – 42 offers sharp yet noiseless pictures.

Viewing Comfort – improved viewing experience
The Viewing Comfort concept focuses on the interface between the screen and the user, and between the screen and the room. It has been developed to improve the subjective viewing experience of the user. Viewing Comfort elements in BeoVision 4 – 42 include the anti-reflection coated contrast screen, which reduces reflections of incoming light and improves the black level. The black level of BeoVision 4 – 42 is better than what is generally seen in the market for plasma – meaning that what looks black is more black, rather than grey.

The result is deeper and richer colours. Other Viewing Comfort elements in BeoVision 4 – 42 are electronic curtains and automatic picture format optimisation. (Due to the separation of monitor and master in BeoVision 4 – 42, the Automatic Picture Control feature known from BeoVision 5 and other BeoVision products is not available in BeoVision 4 – 42).

BeoVision 3

” Close your eyes and imagine your perfect TV. Should it have the latest digital surround sound decoder and a connection for extra loudspeakers? Integrated control of your satellite and DVD sources? And what about an anti-reflection contrast screen to improve your viewing comfort? Whatever you opt for, what you get as standard is Bang & Olufsen sound and picture quality – and a luxurious television experience that matches your own personal needs exactly.

BeoVision 3 28 is a smaller version of the 77cm-screen . The TV set incorporates similar functions to that of its bigger brother but is just a 67cm viewable screen and is designed to allow for greater flexibility in respect of positioning.

This smaller-screened television is, design-wise, the same as BeoVision 3 32. The chassis (50Hz) is basically the same as in BeoVision 1 Update III (50Hz); operation and specification is therefore the same (including the tuner and speakers).

Design
When it comes to widescreen television, you may think that you’ve seen it all before. But take a look at the new BeoVision 3 28 and see what happens when intelligent design meets state-of the art technology. A perfect picture and truly great sound removes the distance between you and what’s happening on the screen.

Picture it for yourself: a wide screen elegantly framed in a colour of your choice. BeoVision 3 is designed to match your personal environment as well as your demands for a perfect viewing experience.

Clear Vision
What is it you’re watching on the screen? A true picture or poor image? The real-flat screen of BeoVision 3 offers the best viewing possible and the widescreen format ensures that it’s made for movie watching.

The more you can lose yourself in a film, the more enjoyable the experience becomes. That’s why anything that comes between the viewer and the picture is eliminated. Like reflections. A special contrast screen coating on the screen – fitted as standard * – reduces them to an absolute minimum and ensures a perfect viewing experience.

VisionClear is not something you’re meant to notice, but just enjoy. It starts already when you switch your BeoVision 3 on. Within a second it adjusts contrast levels, brilliance and colour to match the unique light conditions in the room – and will carry on doing so until you switch off again. (More on VisionClear)

BeoVision 1

Bang & Olufsen BeoVision 1

BeoVision 1 is definitely a case of less being more. BeoVision 1 takes television back to basics. Gone is anything that could complicate or confuse, and what’s left is the simple enjoyment of watching TV. At the heart of BeoVision 1 is a four-buttoned remote control and a ground-breaking method of operation. Each family member can establish their own group of favourite channels which are easily accessed and edited via the Beo1.

BeoVision 1 LS
BeoVision 1 LS is a variant of the BeoVision 1 television, and has been specially developed to interact with Bang & Olufsen’s Beolink® system. With its many colour and placement options, BeoVision 1 LS can be located in the bedroom, study or home office, and – via a MasterLink cable – give you access and control of all the sources in your main room set-up. With functions similar to the BeoVision MX 4002, the BeoVision 1 LS can only be controlled with the Beolink® system remote control, Beo4. The group function of BeoVision 1 and its optional STB, Sat-Receiver and DVD Controller are not available in the Beolink® compatible version.

Simplicity
BeoVision 1 cleans up the technological mess and takes television back to basics. Gone is anything that complicates or confuses and what’s left is the pure and simple enjoyment of watching television.

Menus
Just as BeoVision 1 doesn’t look like any other television, it doesn’t act like it either. With a Beo1 in hand, the user interacts with a series of specially created on-screen menus to offer a uniquely simplified method of operation. In a world of unlimited TV channels and endless options, BeoVision 1 puts you back in charge of your television. Instead of zapping through all that’s on offer, you organise the channels you want in up to 8 user groups; News, Movies, Sports – or perhaps one for each member of the family.

Performance
Into a world where complexity is often mistaken for progress comes BeoVision 1. A straightforward, easy-to-use television with a first-rate picture, a sumptuous sound reproduction, and ground-breaking operation principle. Instead of zapping through endless lists of programmes, BeoVision 1 offers instant access to an individual choice of programmes in up to eight user groups; News, Movies, Sports, Children etc. – or perhaps one for each member of the family

Placement

When it comes to placement options, BeoVision 1 spoils you with choice. Easy access, anywhere you want it, BeoVision 1 offers a range of five placement options, from table top to high and low floor stands, from wall mounting to a traditional stand with room for a VCR player. If you opt for wall mounting or the high stand, the power and aerial cables can be hidden inside the stand for seamless connection. Place it on a table with or without room for a VCR/DVD player. Or set it upon the special high stand and lift your television 2 metres off the ground.

Turning Function
Are you tired of rearranging the furniture to suit the TV? With the optional turning function, BeoVision 1 will turn through an arc of 70 degrees. You can program it to turn towards you every time you sit down in your favourite viewing chair and switch on.

Physical design
From front to back, from start to finish – BeoVision 1 is a true reflection of Bang & Olufsen’s belief in combining unrivalled technology with emotional appeal.

You can see it in the clear, simple design that stands out but never dominates. In the choice of vivid colours that includes yellow, blue, green, red, grey and black and special mat finish that covers the entire cabinet. Or in the cantilevered front screen that appears to float by itself. It’s an effective blend of form and function that creates its own unique experience. Because BeoVision 1 brings television out into the open, it’s important that it looks good from every angle. That’s why the coloured surface, with its unique silk mat texture, covers the entire cabinet; from top to bottom and front to back.

As from October 2002, both BeoVision 1 and Beocenter 1 were delivered with a Beo4 remote control in place of Beo1 which was discontinued. By January 2003 a Dolby Digital Surround Sound kit was available for both TV models. The colour range of BeoVision 1 was reduced to two colours: black and grey.

Sound & picture
It’s one of the most impressive things about BeoVision 1 – and something you’ll probably never notice. While you’re watching what’s on the screen, it’s constantly monitoring the picture and sound being produced. It will react instantly to the slightest change in the surrounding light and even take account of the sound variations that occur when you switch from one channel to another. It’s total sound and picture quality – take it for granted. Bang & Olufsen realised long ago that sound makes the best picture even better. That’s why BeoVision 1 uses powerful active loudspeakers to give the purest sound possible. BeoVision 1 also automatically adjusts and optimises the sound level when you switch between different TV channels.

A TV picture placed high above the rest so that everyone can see it is not a new idea. It has been around for a long time, but only seen in direct context with a wall. The picture was seen placed on a shelf, a wall bracket or occasionally suspended from a ceiling.

BeoVision 1 and Beocenter 1 are designed to be seen from all sides. Designed to stand like sculpture in the centre of a room. The ideas team therefore wished them to be mounted as high as possible in the room, or even out in the open under the open sky, if possible.

Just looking at BeoVision 1 or Beocenter 1 on its tall stand may not reveal the inspiration behind the solution but it is obvious when you hear it.

In the latter stages of development of BeoVision 1, David Lewis presented his idea to the tram: “We’ll create a ‘banner’ as in medieval times, when a knight would carry his coat of arms, embroidered onto a piece of cloth and raised high on a pole, so that everyone could see where he was”.

VisionClear
BeoVision 1 offers the sharpest, clearest picture ever seen from a Bang & Olufsen television. And to make sure you experience it every time you watch TV, BeoVision 1 uses the latest VisionClear technology to automatically optimize brightness, contrast and colour to match the prevailing light conditions in the room.

Intelligent TV
Take television back to its basic essentials; the enjoyment of a sound and picture experience – a simple intelligent television.

BeoVision 1 cuts down on the superfluous functions that have little relevance to watching television and greatly enhances those that do. With both picture and sound optimised automatically, you’ve even more freedom to focus on the things that really matter; pure, unadulterated entertainment.

BeoVision 1 LS
If you already have Bang & Olufsen equipment in your living room, you can opt for the Beolink® version of BeoVision 1 and place it in the study or bedroom. From there you can access the radio or CD on your CD player, or enjoy the extra video options of your main room setup.

BeoVision 1 LS – Press Release 2000
Two concepts united in new TV. The unity of two groundbreaking concepts is the idea behind the introduction of the newest member of the Bang & Olufsen video family. The BeoVision 1 link slave variant (LS) combines the logical distribution of sound and picture known from the Beolink® system with the simplicity of the BeoVision 1 concept. The prospects look bright for the newest video product from the factory in Struer.

“With the BeoVision 1 link slave variant, we offer a complement to the already successful BeoVision MX4002 television. Whereas the classic styling and dimensions of MX4002 will continue to appeal to several thousand customers annually, we believe that the BeoVision 1 LS will only serve to increase these numbers”, states Product Manager Dirk Hogenfeld.

“This variant simply provides an additional choice for the consumer who wishes to expand his or her Beolink® system. Emotionally, he or she may choose from the discreet elegance of the MX line or the soft refinement of BeoVision 1 LS. From a purely physical aspect, he or she now has the freedom to choose between the charming 21″ screen of MX4002 or the attractive 25″ screen of the BeoVision 1 LS with all the placement options”, continues Hogenfeld.

BeoVision 1 LS’s flexibility stems primarily from a choice of five unique placement possibilities: from floating almost magically out from the wall, to sitting on a more traditional floor stand, to standing tall on a 160 cm column. Utilising the optional built-in motor, the BeoVision 1 LS can also be turned to face in different directions.

Externally, BeoVision 1 LS offers a truly colourful experience. It is available in six different colours: green, black, yellow, blue, red and grey. And all with matching fabric in the V-shape below the TV screen. This finishing touch helps ensure that the BeoVision 1 LS blends into any home interior.

Furthermore, a TV that goes anywhere also needs to produce a picture that looks good anywhere. The BeoVision 1 LS’s automatic contrast, brightness and colour control means superb picture quality in more or less any light. Add the optional anti-reflection coated contrast glass to the 25″, 4:3 format screen, and the amount of incoming light is reduced by almost 99%, when compared with ordinary front glass.

Access to all main room sources
Like all other dedicated Beolink® products, only one simple press on the Beo4 remote control is necessary to access a main room source – such as CD, radio, videotape or DVD. Volume control takes place independently of the main room. The operation principles are logical and consistent with remainder of the Bang & Olufsen product portfolio.
