Beovision 3800 and 3900 were 22″ colour TV receivers finished in genuine wood veneers (teak or rosewood). They superceded models 3602 and 3702 in 1979. The sets were slim and elegant and their classic design suited any home décor according to the 1979 – 80 catalogue. High Bright picture tubes allowed for satisfactory daylight viewing since they permitted around 70% more light than from the screen than conventional picture tubes.
Beovision 3800 was for direct (set box) operation while Beovision 3900 permitted you to operate the set via an ultrasonic remote control handset. Beovision 3900 could also be supplied equipped for Teletext reception.
Automatic cut-off circuits guaranteed correct balance between the three basic colours (red, green blue) even after a long period of use. In fact, these sets incorporated every refinement which still makes Bang & Olufsen’s television sets among the market’s best. VCR programmes could be played without additional technical adjustment. There was an automatic synchronisation on all channels.
A choice of two mobile undercarriages were available. A tall undercarriage (42cm high, type 3057) depicted here, and a lower one (34cm, type 3058). Both were sold as optional accessories
” Close your eyes and imagine your perfect TV. Should it have the latest digital surround sound decoder and a connection for extra loudspeakers? Integrated control of your satellite and DVD sources? And what about an anti-reflection contrast screen to improve your viewing comfort? Whatever you opt for, what you get as standard is Bang & Olufsen sound and picture quality – and a luxurious television experience that matches your own personal needs exactly.
BeoVision 3 28 is a smaller version of the 77cm-screen . The TV set incorporates similar functions to that of its bigger brother but is just a 67cm viewable screen and is designed to allow for greater flexibility in respect of positioning.
This smaller-screened television is, design-wise, the same as BeoVision 3 32. The chassis (50Hz) is basically the same as in BeoVision 1 Update III (50Hz); operation and specification is therefore the same (including the tuner and speakers).
Design
When it comes to widescreen television, you may think that you’ve seen it all before. But take a look at the new BeoVision 3 28 and see what happens when intelligent design meets state-of the art technology. A perfect picture and truly great sound removes the distance between you and what’s happening on the screen.
Picture it for yourself: a wide screen elegantly framed in a colour of your choice. BeoVision 3 is designed to match your personal environment as well as your demands for a perfect viewing experience.
Clear Vision
What is it you’re watching on the screen? A true picture or poor image? The real-flat screen of BeoVision 3 offers the best viewing possible and the widescreen format ensures that it’s made for movie watching.
The more you can lose yourself in a film, the more enjoyable the experience becomes. That’s why anything that comes between the viewer and the picture is eliminated. Like reflections. A special contrast screen coating on the screen – fitted as standard * – reduces them to an absolute minimum and ensures a perfect viewing experience.
VisionClear is not something you’re meant to notice, but just enjoy. It starts already when you switch your BeoVision 3 on. Within a second it adjusts contrast levels, brilliance and colour to match the unique light conditions in the room – and will carry on doing so until you switch off again. (More on VisionClear)
BeoVision 12 is a breathtaking, 65-inch television, with an ultra-slim plasma screen and 3D capabilities. The first thing you will notice about BeoVision 12 is that although it is impressive in size, it actually appears thinner than it is. This seeming weightlessness is achieved through a unique optical illusion.
Observe the exceptionally slim, black aluminium frame enveloping the television, and notice what you don’t see. There are no joints or seams interrupting the flow of the frame. This is achieved by imprinting the frame from one large piece of aluminium foil. The result is a seamless, uniform surface that is almost like watching a moving picture on glass.
The integrated centre speaker is placed beneath the screen. The anodised aluminium grill features a curving wave design that includes 5,000 holes in an elegant elliptical shape.
BeoVision 12 fits directly on the wall, with a unique mounting solution. The wall bracket is semi-integrated into the rear cabinet, with the goal of adding miniscule millimetres to the television as it lifts from the wall. The video engine of BeoVision 12 is hidden out of sight, in a cabinet or special room where all external equipment can be tucked away.
BeoVision 12 – Generations
The BeoVision 12 came in two versions during it’s product lifecycle, both being a 65″ Plasma Screen but of differing panel generations. The first Mk1 version was wall-mountable only and used the 3D (Type 7711) version of the BeoSystem 3.
The ‘NG’ Mk2 version utilised the new BeoSystem 4 and used the later generation of Panasonic Plasma Panel. Bang & Olufsen also introduced a new Motorised Floor Stand option for the NG version which was controlled directly by the BeoSystem 4. giving the user the option of turning the screen left and right with the Remote Controller. The stand was supplied with a large panel which affixed to the rear of the plasma panel, within which there was a mount plate to secure to the Floor Stand. The stand itself was very similar to the BeoVision 7-55″ version in looks and dimensions.
B&O’s first smart TV, being based on the design of the successful Beovision 10. Major changes include the 3D facility and an upgraded sound performance. 6 HDMI ports are available, one being on the accessory panel, and the TV can be controlled with either the Beo4 or 6 or via an iPad or Android tablet.

The BeoVision 10 is an incarnation of the BeoVision 5 design theme, finally done in the style originally conceived – a TV which emulates a picture in all dimensions – even thickness. The set is a mere 7 cm thick.
A 200Hz panel with edge type LED lighting offers superb clarity, with the advantages of VisionClear added to the mix.
The Beovision 10 – 40″ was the first model in the range of sets designed primarily for wall mounting. To this end, the sets are very slim with a frame design design to accentuate the slimness and lightness of the television.
Sound is provided for by the provision of a 5 way speaker system with twin channels having tweeters and midrange units and a shared bass unit. Special attention has been given to the sound with a tuned bass port provided in such a way that the depth of the television is maintained but that bass performance is up to Bang & Olufsen’s usual standards.
The set offers Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) and a comprehensive sets of connections – 2 or 3 HDMI sockets (depending on type) are present and an internal digital connection is also present for the DVB-HD module, which is standard fit on all variants.
The customer merely has to decide which stand option is required, with either a slim 4mm wall mount which allows the set to be angled 45 degrees to either the left or right. Alternatively, a floor stand which is motorised for side to side motion is available with a manual vertical tilt possible.
Mounting Options
When launched, Bang & Olufsen produced a Motor Floor Stand and a simple Wall Bracket using the hinged device seen previously to position the rear of the TV close to the wall.
BeoVision 1 is definitely a case of less being more. BeoVision 1 takes television back to basics. Gone is anything that could complicate or confuse, and what’s left is the simple enjoyment of watching TV. At the heart of BeoVision 1 is a four-buttoned remote control and a ground-breaking method of operation. Each family member can establish their own group of favourite channels which are easily accessed and edited via the Beo1.
BeoVision 1 LS
BeoVision 1 LS is a variant of the BeoVision 1 television, and has been specially developed to interact with Bang & Olufsen’s Beolink® system. With its many colour and placement options, BeoVision 1 LS can be located in the bedroom, study or home office, and – via a MasterLink cable – give you access and control of all the sources in your main room set-up. With functions similar to the BeoVision MX 4002, the BeoVision 1 LS can only be controlled with the Beolink® system remote control, Beo4. The group function of BeoVision 1 and its optional STB, Sat-Receiver and DVD Controller are not available in the Beolink® compatible version.
Simplicity
BeoVision 1 cleans up the technological mess and takes television back to basics. Gone is anything that complicates or confuses and what’s left is the pure and simple enjoyment of watching television.
Menus
Just as BeoVision 1 doesn’t look like any other television, it doesn’t act like it either. With a Beo1 in hand, the user interacts with a series of specially created on-screen menus to offer a uniquely simplified method of operation. In a world of unlimited TV channels and endless options, BeoVision 1 puts you back in charge of your television. Instead of zapping through all that’s on offer, you organise the channels you want in up to 8 user groups; News, Movies, Sports – or perhaps one for each member of the family.
Performance
Into a world where complexity is often mistaken for progress comes BeoVision 1. A straightforward, easy-to-use television with a first-rate picture, a sumptuous sound reproduction, and ground-breaking operation principle. Instead of zapping through endless lists of programmes, BeoVision 1 offers instant access to an individual choice of programmes in up to eight user groups; News, Movies, Sports, Children etc. – or perhaps one for each member of the family
Placement
When it comes to placement options, BeoVision 1 spoils you with choice. Easy access, anywhere you want it, BeoVision 1 offers a range of five placement options, from table top to high and low floor stands, from wall mounting to a traditional stand with room for a VCR player. If you opt for wall mounting or the high stand, the power and aerial cables can be hidden inside the stand for seamless connection. Place it on a table with or without room for a VCR/DVD player. Or set it upon the special high stand and lift your television 2 metres off the ground.
Turning Function
Are you tired of rearranging the furniture to suit the TV? With the optional turning function, BeoVision 1 will turn through an arc of 70 degrees. You can program it to turn towards you every time you sit down in your favourite viewing chair and switch on.
Physical design
From front to back, from start to finish – BeoVision 1 is a true reflection of Bang & Olufsen’s belief in combining unrivalled technology with emotional appeal.
You can see it in the clear, simple design that stands out but never dominates. In the choice of vivid colours that includes yellow, blue, green, red, grey and black and special mat finish that covers the entire cabinet. Or in the cantilevered front screen that appears to float by itself. It’s an effective blend of form and function that creates its own unique experience. Because BeoVision 1 brings television out into the open, it’s important that it looks good from every angle. That’s why the coloured surface, with its unique silk mat texture, covers the entire cabinet; from top to bottom and front to back.
As from October 2002, both BeoVision 1 and Beocenter 1 were delivered with a Beo4 remote control in place of Beo1 which was discontinued. By January 2003 a Dolby Digital Surround Sound kit was available for both TV models. The colour range of BeoVision 1 was reduced to two colours: black and grey.
Sound & picture
It’s one of the most impressive things about BeoVision 1 – and something you’ll probably never notice. While you’re watching what’s on the screen, it’s constantly monitoring the picture and sound being produced. It will react instantly to the slightest change in the surrounding light and even take account of the sound variations that occur when you switch from one channel to another. It’s total sound and picture quality – take it for granted. Bang & Olufsen realised long ago that sound makes the best picture even better. That’s why BeoVision 1 uses powerful active loudspeakers to give the purest sound possible. BeoVision 1 also automatically adjusts and optimises the sound level when you switch between different TV channels.
A TV picture placed high above the rest so that everyone can see it is not a new idea. It has been around for a long time, but only seen in direct context with a wall. The picture was seen placed on a shelf, a wall bracket or occasionally suspended from a ceiling.
BeoVision 1 and Beocenter 1 are designed to be seen from all sides. Designed to stand like sculpture in the centre of a room. The ideas team therefore wished them to be mounted as high as possible in the room, or even out in the open under the open sky, if possible.
Just looking at BeoVision 1 or Beocenter 1 on its tall stand may not reveal the inspiration behind the solution but it is obvious when you hear it.
In the latter stages of development of BeoVision 1, David Lewis presented his idea to the tram: “We’ll create a ‘banner’ as in medieval times, when a knight would carry his coat of arms, embroidered onto a piece of cloth and raised high on a pole, so that everyone could see where he was”.
VisionClear
BeoVision 1 offers the sharpest, clearest picture ever seen from a Bang & Olufsen television. And to make sure you experience it every time you watch TV, BeoVision 1 uses the latest VisionClear technology to automatically optimize brightness, contrast and colour to match the prevailing light conditions in the room.
Intelligent TV
Take television back to its basic essentials; the enjoyment of a sound and picture experience – a simple intelligent television.
BeoVision 1 cuts down on the superfluous functions that have little relevance to watching television and greatly enhances those that do. With both picture and sound optimised automatically, you’ve even more freedom to focus on the things that really matter; pure, unadulterated entertainment.
BeoVision 1 LS
If you already have Bang & Olufsen equipment in your living room, you can opt for the Beolink® version of BeoVision 1 and place it in the study or bedroom. From there you can access the radio or CD on your CD player, or enjoy the extra video options of your main room setup.
BeoVision 1 LS – Press Release 2000
Two concepts united in new TV. The unity of two groundbreaking concepts is the idea behind the introduction of the newest member of the Bang & Olufsen video family. The BeoVision 1 link slave variant (LS) combines the logical distribution of sound and picture known from the Beolink® system with the simplicity of the BeoVision 1 concept. The prospects look bright for the newest video product from the factory in Struer.
“With the BeoVision 1 link slave variant, we offer a complement to the already successful BeoVision MX4002 television. Whereas the classic styling and dimensions of MX4002 will continue to appeal to several thousand customers annually, we believe that the BeoVision 1 LS will only serve to increase these numbers”, states Product Manager Dirk Hogenfeld.
“This variant simply provides an additional choice for the consumer who wishes to expand his or her Beolink® system. Emotionally, he or she may choose from the discreet elegance of the MX line or the soft refinement of BeoVision 1 LS. From a purely physical aspect, he or she now has the freedom to choose between the charming 21″ screen of MX4002 or the attractive 25″ screen of the BeoVision 1 LS with all the placement options”, continues Hogenfeld.
BeoVision 1 LS’s flexibility stems primarily from a choice of five unique placement possibilities: from floating almost magically out from the wall, to sitting on a more traditional floor stand, to standing tall on a 160 cm column. Utilising the optional built-in motor, the BeoVision 1 LS can also be turned to face in different directions.
Externally, BeoVision 1 LS offers a truly colourful experience. It is available in six different colours: green, black, yellow, blue, red and grey. And all with matching fabric in the V-shape below the TV screen. This finishing touch helps ensure that the BeoVision 1 LS blends into any home interior.
Furthermore, a TV that goes anywhere also needs to produce a picture that looks good anywhere. The BeoVision 1 LS’s automatic contrast, brightness and colour control means superb picture quality in more or less any light. Add the optional anti-reflection coated contrast glass to the 25″, 4:3 format screen, and the amount of incoming light is reduced by almost 99%, when compared with ordinary front glass.
Access to all main room sources
Like all other dedicated Beolink® products, only one simple press on the Beo4 remote control is necessary to access a main room source – such as CD, radio, videotape or DVD. Volume control takes place independently of the main room. The operation principles are logical and consistent with remainder of the Bang & Olufsen product portfolio.
