A part of the Bang & Olufsen complete home entertainment solution is the light control system which allows for the adjustment of light-settings of a single lamp, room or entire house with a Beolink® remote control.
You can also program local and global light-settings so that when you press ‘LIGHT’ and ‘1’ on the relevant remote control all the lights in the room adjust to their preset lux-settings which are stored in memory-location ‘1’. Nine local light settings can be stored with the dimming of each light unit being made individually.

Beovision MS6000 was basically an MX 6000, but the bass reflex loudspeakers were replaced by full tone units and it had no connections for Beolink® and A/V integration. It did however, have stereo loudspeakers and its equipment was otherwise similar to the MX 6000. It was controlled by the remote control Beolink 1000 handset and was available in a dark grey finish. Later editions featured the MS6000 in a silver-grey finish. Teletext was included, together with the option of Beo4 control.
The TV was an upgrade from Beovision ME6000 in 1996 and was a TV featuring all the fundamental Bang & Olufsen qualities, at the same time representing “simplification, innovation and common sense”. With the slightly tinted contrast screen and the VisionClear system with Automatic Picture Control, it offered excellent, sharp pictures under all lighting conditions.
The MS6000 could be placed on an optional motorised BeoStand and could be fitted with an optional BeoSat LM receiver.
The MX range was the first to bring the TV out into the open and it continues to show alternative ways of living with television. Beovision MX4000 was the little brother of the MX6000 having the same functions but with some minor differences when it came to sound and picture. The speaker was not a 2-way bass reflex as in the MX6000 but a 2-way Logline speaker.
Complete with a choice of colours, the specially-designed wall brackets of the MX 4000/4002 gave you the option of placing the MX on the wall. The placement options of the MX 4000/4002 also included a motorised stand with room for your VCR/DVD player.
The TV had a 51cm screen, the same features as MX 6000, but with conventional loudspeakers, optional wall bracket, available in pearlescent shades of: green, blue, red, grey, black or glossy white. With a Beovision MX 4002 as an extra TV in the bedroom, you could access the video and satellite options of the Avant in the living room or wake up to music from the radio and CD of the Ouverture or BeoSound 3000. Beovision MX4002 was replaced with the MX4200 in 2003.
Beovision MX 4000 was the smallest television of Bang & Olufsen televisions in the late 1990s and right up to 2003. It had a 51cm screen, and was equipped with the latest generation of the Black Line picture tube, contrast screen and VisionClear technology. Together they provided an optimum picture quality under any lighting conditions – even when faced with direct sunshine. In spite of their modest size, the log-line loudspeakers located under the screen gave full-tone stereo with great depth and amplitude. MX 4000 had both A2 and NICAM Stereo decoders and Teletext-functions.
Beovision MX 4000 was probably the most flexible television as far as placing was concerned. You could place it directly on a floor, and using the spring bar underneath the set you could tilt it in order to improve viewing angle. You could place the MX 4000 on the wall with an optional bracket, which also came as a motorised version. When on the wall, you could tilt the screen downwards, towards a bed, for example. Or you could of course place the TV on a stand on the floor, or on a stand on a table. Both stands were available in motorised versions and the floor-stand had an optional video-shelf available. The motorised stand was operated via the Beolink® remote control, that also operated the television and video (shown) as well as all B&O audio systems and light control units.
Beovision MX 4000 was a great addition to a multi-room Beolink® system, where it acted as one link itself and could play audio from the audio system that was located elsewhere in your home. And on the other hand, you could direct the sound from the television to the speakers of your audio system.
It had the same beautiful, sleek and modern design as all other Beovision televisions; the design of which has even been compared to sports cars!
MX Design
Filling a television with every conceivable gadget that technology offers is easy enough. What’s more difficult is identifying what really improves the overall experience of watching TV and eliminating the things that don’t. That’s the philosophy behind the MX range. In both form and function, it’s a clear-cut case of less being more.
Complete with a choice of 6 colours that included green and white, the specially-designed wall brackets of the MX 4000 gave you the option of placing your MX on the wall. The placement options of the MX 4000 also included a motorised stand with room for your VCR/DVD player. The TV was controlled by the provided Beo4 remote control.
Beolink® – Beovision MX 4002
Beovision MX 4002 was the Beolink® variation of the MX 4000. This model gave you numerous options when you were setting up your Beolink® system and needed an extra television in your bedroom, study or kitchen. The MX 4002 was available in the same colours as MX 4000 and had the same placement possibilities as well.
** Beovision 4000/4002 at the time of its introduction, was fitted with a plexi-glass (acrylic) screen. However, since the late 1990’s, the model has a glass screen, the same as the rest of the model range.

Beovision MX6000 delivers the same uncompromising picture quality as the MX 7000. The only difference is the loudspeaker system which has conventional amplification using built-in passive speakers.
The MX television range was the first to bring the TV out into the open and it continues to show alternative ways of living with television. With the current MX range, the TV finally becomes a discreet part of your interior decoration. Choose between a 51cm or 66cm screen, 6 different colours and a versatile range of stands and brackets – with or without motorised turning. What comes as standard however, is an uncompromising sound and picture quality that has set the reference for modern television.
The Beovision MX series has become a classic. Designed by David Lewis in the 1980s, this television set has gradually developed through the years to become the most well-known TV in the world today. Much has happened however, since the first version. Today the Beovision MX6000 is equipped with the latest in picture and sound technology. This is the first, and probably only, TV with an built-in active speaker system. By using the same technology as used in all their stand alone active speakers, Bang & Olufsen have managed to provide sound quality that is hard to believe. The MX6000 is really the same machine as the MX7000 but without the active speakers. It features a passive system instead.
When it comes to the picture, the current version features a 28 inch BlackLine S CRT along with the contrast screen and the other VisionClear components. The MX series can, of course, be equipped with built in satellite receiver/Positioner and a Picture-In-Picture (PIP) module. For those wishing to use the Teletext subtitles when a programme is using them the MX sets automatically turns them on and, in conjunction with a Beocord VX7000, it can also record a TV programme with subtitles. All versions can be connected to the motor stands giving the possibility to adjust the viewing angle remotely.
With two colours and five placement options to choose from, the MX 6000 will suit almost any purpose and room environment. The Beovision MX6000 is basically an MX7000, but with a conventional speaker system instead of active loudspeakers.

Beovision MX 7000 comes with the same Active loudspeakers technology that’s found in the BeoLab range of loudspeakers. Bang & Olufsen have a long lasting commitment to the principle of Active Loudspeakers, i.e. the idea that each loudspeaker unit is powered by an individual amplifier with a specific crossover network, to ensure perfectly natural sound reproduction. The principle has definite advantages in the field of television sound.
Despite critical operating conditions, Beovision products succeed in providing sonic performances which surpass those of many hi-fi systems. The active loudspeakers in Beovision Avant, for instance, reproduce a sound quality equal to a pair of BeoLab 2500s.
And if your demands exceed those of the average viewer, the speakers’ modularity allows you to enhance the sound performance with any choice of loudspeakers in the BeoLab range.
In October 2002, Beovision MX7000 was replaced with Beovision MX8000.
BeoVision 1 is definitely a case of less being more. BeoVision 1 takes television back to basics. Gone is anything that could complicate or confuse, and what’s left is the simple enjoyment of watching TV. At the heart of BeoVision 1 is a four-buttoned remote control and a ground-breaking method of operation. Each family member can establish their own group of favourite channels which are easily accessed and edited via the Beo1.
BeoVision 1 LS
BeoVision 1 LS is a variant of the BeoVision 1 television, and has been specially developed to interact with Bang & Olufsen’s Beolink® system. With its many colour and placement options, BeoVision 1 LS can be located in the bedroom, study or home office, and – via a MasterLink cable – give you access and control of all the sources in your main room set-up. With functions similar to the BeoVision MX 4002, the BeoVision 1 LS can only be controlled with the Beolink® system remote control, Beo4. The group function of BeoVision 1 and its optional STB, Sat-Receiver and DVD Controller are not available in the Beolink® compatible version.
Simplicity
BeoVision 1 cleans up the technological mess and takes television back to basics. Gone is anything that complicates or confuses and what’s left is the pure and simple enjoyment of watching television.
Menus
Just as BeoVision 1 doesn’t look like any other television, it doesn’t act like it either. With a Beo1 in hand, the user interacts with a series of specially created on-screen menus to offer a uniquely simplified method of operation. In a world of unlimited TV channels and endless options, BeoVision 1 puts you back in charge of your television. Instead of zapping through all that’s on offer, you organise the channels you want in up to 8 user groups; News, Movies, Sports – or perhaps one for each member of the family.
Performance
Into a world where complexity is often mistaken for progress comes BeoVision 1. A straightforward, easy-to-use television with a first-rate picture, a sumptuous sound reproduction, and ground-breaking operation principle. Instead of zapping through endless lists of programmes, BeoVision 1 offers instant access to an individual choice of programmes in up to eight user groups; News, Movies, Sports, Children etc. – or perhaps one for each member of the family
Placement
When it comes to placement options, BeoVision 1 spoils you with choice. Easy access, anywhere you want it, BeoVision 1 offers a range of five placement options, from table top to high and low floor stands, from wall mounting to a traditional stand with room for a VCR player. If you opt for wall mounting or the high stand, the power and aerial cables can be hidden inside the stand for seamless connection. Place it on a table with or without room for a VCR/DVD player. Or set it upon the special high stand and lift your television 2 metres off the ground.
Turning Function
Are you tired of rearranging the furniture to suit the TV? With the optional turning function, BeoVision 1 will turn through an arc of 70 degrees. You can program it to turn towards you every time you sit down in your favourite viewing chair and switch on.
Physical design
From front to back, from start to finish – BeoVision 1 is a true reflection of Bang & Olufsen’s belief in combining unrivalled technology with emotional appeal.
You can see it in the clear, simple design that stands out but never dominates. In the choice of vivid colours that includes yellow, blue, green, red, grey and black and special mat finish that covers the entire cabinet. Or in the cantilevered front screen that appears to float by itself. It’s an effective blend of form and function that creates its own unique experience. Because BeoVision 1 brings television out into the open, it’s important that it looks good from every angle. That’s why the coloured surface, with its unique silk mat texture, covers the entire cabinet; from top to bottom and front to back.
As from October 2002, both BeoVision 1 and Beocenter 1 were delivered with a Beo4 remote control in place of Beo1 which was discontinued. By January 2003 a Dolby Digital Surround Sound kit was available for both TV models. The colour range of BeoVision 1 was reduced to two colours: black and grey.
Sound & picture
It’s one of the most impressive things about BeoVision 1 – and something you’ll probably never notice. While you’re watching what’s on the screen, it’s constantly monitoring the picture and sound being produced. It will react instantly to the slightest change in the surrounding light and even take account of the sound variations that occur when you switch from one channel to another. It’s total sound and picture quality – take it for granted. Bang & Olufsen realised long ago that sound makes the best picture even better. That’s why BeoVision 1 uses powerful active loudspeakers to give the purest sound possible. BeoVision 1 also automatically adjusts and optimises the sound level when you switch between different TV channels.
A TV picture placed high above the rest so that everyone can see it is not a new idea. It has been around for a long time, but only seen in direct context with a wall. The picture was seen placed on a shelf, a wall bracket or occasionally suspended from a ceiling.
BeoVision 1 and Beocenter 1 are designed to be seen from all sides. Designed to stand like sculpture in the centre of a room. The ideas team therefore wished them to be mounted as high as possible in the room, or even out in the open under the open sky, if possible.
Just looking at BeoVision 1 or Beocenter 1 on its tall stand may not reveal the inspiration behind the solution but it is obvious when you hear it.
In the latter stages of development of BeoVision 1, David Lewis presented his idea to the tram: “We’ll create a ‘banner’ as in medieval times, when a knight would carry his coat of arms, embroidered onto a piece of cloth and raised high on a pole, so that everyone could see where he was”.
VisionClear
BeoVision 1 offers the sharpest, clearest picture ever seen from a Bang & Olufsen television. And to make sure you experience it every time you watch TV, BeoVision 1 uses the latest VisionClear technology to automatically optimize brightness, contrast and colour to match the prevailing light conditions in the room.
Intelligent TV
Take television back to its basic essentials; the enjoyment of a sound and picture experience – a simple intelligent television.
BeoVision 1 cuts down on the superfluous functions that have little relevance to watching television and greatly enhances those that do. With both picture and sound optimised automatically, you’ve even more freedom to focus on the things that really matter; pure, unadulterated entertainment.
BeoVision 1 LS
If you already have Bang & Olufsen equipment in your living room, you can opt for the Beolink® version of BeoVision 1 and place it in the study or bedroom. From there you can access the radio or CD on your CD player, or enjoy the extra video options of your main room setup.
BeoVision 1 LS – Press Release 2000
Two concepts united in new TV. The unity of two groundbreaking concepts is the idea behind the introduction of the newest member of the Bang & Olufsen video family. The BeoVision 1 link slave variant (LS) combines the logical distribution of sound and picture known from the Beolink® system with the simplicity of the BeoVision 1 concept. The prospects look bright for the newest video product from the factory in Struer.
“With the BeoVision 1 link slave variant, we offer a complement to the already successful BeoVision MX4002 television. Whereas the classic styling and dimensions of MX4002 will continue to appeal to several thousand customers annually, we believe that the BeoVision 1 LS will only serve to increase these numbers”, states Product Manager Dirk Hogenfeld.
“This variant simply provides an additional choice for the consumer who wishes to expand his or her Beolink® system. Emotionally, he or she may choose from the discreet elegance of the MX line or the soft refinement of BeoVision 1 LS. From a purely physical aspect, he or she now has the freedom to choose between the charming 21″ screen of MX4002 or the attractive 25″ screen of the BeoVision 1 LS with all the placement options”, continues Hogenfeld.
BeoVision 1 LS’s flexibility stems primarily from a choice of five unique placement possibilities: from floating almost magically out from the wall, to sitting on a more traditional floor stand, to standing tall on a 160 cm column. Utilising the optional built-in motor, the BeoVision 1 LS can also be turned to face in different directions.
Externally, BeoVision 1 LS offers a truly colourful experience. It is available in six different colours: green, black, yellow, blue, red and grey. And all with matching fabric in the V-shape below the TV screen. This finishing touch helps ensure that the BeoVision 1 LS blends into any home interior.
Furthermore, a TV that goes anywhere also needs to produce a picture that looks good anywhere. The BeoVision 1 LS’s automatic contrast, brightness and colour control means superb picture quality in more or less any light. Add the optional anti-reflection coated contrast glass to the 25″, 4:3 format screen, and the amount of incoming light is reduced by almost 99%, when compared with ordinary front glass.
Access to all main room sources
Like all other dedicated Beolink® products, only one simple press on the Beo4 remote control is necessary to access a main room source – such as CD, radio, videotape or DVD. Volume control takes place independently of the main room. The operation principles are logical and consistent with remainder of the Bang & Olufsen product portfolio.
Bang & Olufsen, founded in 1925 by two young Danish engineers, Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen, was set up to build radio sets for the newly-emerging radio industry.
The company’s history, told in this publication: ‘Bang & Olufsen – From Vision to Legend’ , was published in order to celebrate their seventy-fifth year and includes a traumatic event in World War II that nearly brought the company to collapse. Danish saboteurs, with help from German occupying forces, blew up the Struer factory in retaliation for the company’s refusal to work with the Germans and their role in the Danish resistance. Bang & Olufsen survived the setback and the company flourished.
Bang & Olufsen – From Vision to Legend’ by Jens Bang (Denmark 2000) was published in recognition of its first successful 75 years. The edition is a comprehensive history of this famous company and its design-led products. With text in English it is profusely illustrated in both colour and monochrome.
” BeoSound 3000: the design may be a Bang & Olufsen classic, but BeoSound 3000 and BeoSound Ouverture refuse to rest on their laurels. Access to new musical sources and fresh loudspeaker options ensure that the concept remains an open invitation to make something special out of your music.
With BeoSound 3000 everything is upright and out in the open so that you can see how it works and understand how it reacts when you press its buttons. Even the simple act of placing a CD has been made part of the overall experience and enjoyment. It combines radio with an advanced CD player, and – as something new – lets you access your digital music files directly from your own PC. As well as offering radio and CD, the BeoSound Ouverture also has an intelligent tape function ” (B&O catalogue 2001 – 2002)
Both products can be put together with any BeoLab loudspeaker – which gives you the option of an impressive set up on matching stands with two BeoLab 4000 speakers, or a more compact solution between newly redesigned BeoLab 2500 speakers.
With a design that’s undoubtedly becoming a Bang & Olufsen classic, BeoSound 3000 and BeoSound Ouverture are an open invitation to make something special out of your music. BeoSound 3000 is the former Beocenter 2300 (first introduced in 199) but with a whole host of new electronics, features and look including a larger metal CD ‘cover’ and N.MUSIC. The new styling was released to the UK market in September, 2001.
With BeoSound 3000, everything is upright and out in the open, so that you can see how it works and understand how it reacts when you press its buttons. Even the simple act of placing a CD has been made a part of the overall experience and enjoyment.
It combines radio with an intelligent CD player that can name your favourite 200 discs, store your own preferred track sequences for them or skip unwanted ones permanently. With the latest Beolink® PC2 software application, you can also access your digital music collection directly from the BeoSound 3000.
Features
Bring new life to old CDs by changing their track sequence with the Random Play function. Or program it to skip over any unwanted tracks and to play the ones you want, in the order you prefer. Name your favourite 200 CDs and store your own track preferences for them in the extended memory and the BeoSound 3000 will remember it the next time you play one of the CDs. With the CD function of the BeoSound 3000 you’re also able repeat a desired passage of a CD, whether it is within the same track or stretching over a number of tracks.
There’s room for up to 60 pre-set stations on the BeoSound 3000’s intelligent AM/FM radio. You can also name each individual radio station, to give you a complete overview of your radio listening. With the BeoSound 3000 you can wake up to your favourite piece of music. The BeoSound 3000 can be programmed for the entire week and will automatically turn itself off again after playing for any length of time you choose.
Sliding Doors
Just raise a hand and watch as the glass doors glide silently aside. It’s the BeoSound 3000’s way of saying “welcome” and reveals that a special experience is about to begin. Of course, a simple on/off button would do, but then what would be so special about that? Beocenter 3000’s unassuming rubber key pad hides a contact foil, which, in turn, covers a matrix of vertical and horizontal cords. When a control is pressed, the cords connect and the microprocessor is activated.
Placement
It’s a dream come true – a music system that can fill your life with music without filling your home with equipment. The flat upright design of BeoSound 3000 means that it’s slim enough to sit by itself upon the narrowest shelf or light enough to be hung directly on a wall with any pair of loudspeakers in the BeoLab range.
Setup
It used to be that your music system was placed in one room in your home and you had to go there to listen to it. Not anymore. With Beolink®, you can place extra loudspeakers in any room in the house and access the musical options of your BeoSound 3000. The BeoSound 3000 is also equally at home in a Surround Sound setup and will give you an unmatched sound experience.
Internet Music
There’s so much good music on the Internet, but until now you had to be in the same room as your computer to enjoy it. Not anymore. With the latest Beolink® PC2 software application, you can access your digital music collection directly from the BeoSound 3000 in the living room – and send it from there to any other room in the house via the Beolink system.
How the glass doors work
The glass doors on the BeoSound 3000 and BeoSound Ouverture are opened and closed by steel wires driven by an electric motor via a gearbox. The motor is triggered by an infrared system that detects your approach.
Mounting Options
This classic design was reincarnated over a 21 year period with various mounts and stands. Floor stands were available with a pole stand or CD and tape storage, wall mount solutions allowed for the Hi-Fi only, or with BeoLab2500 speakers until these were discontinued
If you want superior sound, but not the size, and a full array of functions but without the complication – then take a look at the BeoSound Century. Designed by David Lewis, it has a very slim depth and brings together CD, tape and FM radio into a slim-line form that can stand by itself or hang from a wall. Everything is operated by buttons that light up to guide you quickly through the various playing options.
BeoSound Century is a clever combination of excellent performance and ease-of-use. This system is known in fact by two different names – BeoSound Century in Europe and BeoSound 2000 in North America. With everything built in, this is the perfect stereo for those who with a limited space as it’s only 11cm deep. It’s for those who don’t want Beolink® capabilities and can be equipped with a handle with a built-in active antenna making it very portable. The speakers use the active construction as that of all BeoLab speakers. In the late nineties the Century was released in a special limited series with polished aluminium instead of the black plastic on the CD holder. This became so popular that it became the standard! There are two different stands available: a wall stand and a special table stand. The unit may also be controlled by the optional Beo4 remote control.
Deep bass
BeoSound Century integrates a powerful sound reproduction system: two active loudspeakers with electronic crossover network and Adaptive Bass Linearisation, for the optimum relationship between bass reproduction and sound pressure level. The very small two-way bass reflex loudspeakers comprise a net volume of only 1,1 litres, but the large front grille gives room for fairly large woofer membrane diameters.
Bass and treble have separate power amplifiers, which means that they can be tailored to compensate for one another’s shortcomings and deliver a sound spectrum as close to reality as possible. On top of that, BeoSound Century can play at high volume, but cuts out before it has an opportunity to burn out its units.
The fine art of control of BeoSound Century
The backlit push buttons of the BeoSound Century are cast in opalescent plastic, painted black on the inside and the text is then burnt away with a laser. The light of a diode behind each button is muted for even distribution, and the button is hinged in four places. A sturdy and relatively inexpensive construction, but it takes just a bit more work!
Operation of BeoSound Century
How do you make operation easy when there are 26 buttons to push? On BeoSound Century, only the buttons you need for the specific function will light up and guide you step by step through operations.
BeoSound Century was awarded the Danish Design Centre’s IP Prize in 1994.
