Overview
The Beomaster 4500 radio/amplifier received both FM and AM radio and was your communication link to the other sound sources in the system. Its operation was simplicity itself with an illuminated menu presenting all the options available. 20 radio stations could be pre-set providing you with instant access together with automatic fine tuning.
The 2 x 55 watt/8 ohm amplifier had a newly-developed, well-balanced interplay with the power supply which gave the output extra strength. The power reserve encompassed the entire frequency range and gave stable sound quality no matter what the volume. Beomaster 4500 also had automatic power handling control that prevented overloading, no matter how many loudspeakers were connected, as well as a special loudspeaker socket which ensured optimal utilisation of BeoLab active loudspeakers.
Beomaster 4500 could be used as part of the Beosystem 4500 hi-fi system and could be controlled via a Beolink 1000 remote control terminal. Later models of Beomaster 4500 could be controlled by the two-way Beolink 5000 and had the extra benefit of programmable timer functions (note that only Beomaster 4500 models with a software version of 2.1 and higher were able to handle two-way communication as well as the timer function.)

Frequently Asked Questions
Thank you lausvi for the following
https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/beomaster-4500-two-way-roms/
The Bang & Olufsen Beomaster 4500 receiver shipped with both 1.6 and 2.x versions of the firmware. The 1.6 allowed only one-way IR remote although some (most?) units were actually equipped with the necessary hardware to support two-way IR. Upgrading the software allows using two-way B&O IR remotes (only Beolink 5000/7000, Master control panels do not appear to work).
The chip used (1.6 that I had in my unit, and the NOS upgrade chip I bought) was an M27512 EPROM.
Copy of a document describing some differences between the ROM versions:
A new software, S/W 2.1, has been introduced in BeoMaster 4500 for functional purposes with BL 5000/7000. At the same time, the following faults have been corrected:
- Beosystem 4500 may intermittently block and it is necessary to remove the mains plug.
- If a two-figure track is selected on tape or CD, the second figure may disappear.
- AM long wave has been changed from 155 kHz to 153 kHz, lowest frequency.
- The STORE button does not function in test mode/service mode on local operation.
- Search-tuning has been improved for a better STEREO/MONO switch.
The modifications have been introduced in the production from serial no. 08499434. The part number is the same, 8341178. A new software version 2.2 has been introduced in Beomaster 4500 as from serial no. 08819263. The following modifications have been made:
- The fault in the PLAY NEXT function has been corrected.
- Beomaster 4500 does not transmit IR status when option 0 mode is selected.
The new software version 2.2 can be ordered under the usual part no.: 8341178.
Symptom: When Beomater 4500 is connected to AV 9000 via audio kit, it is impossible to record satellite sound on the audio tape recorder. Furthermore, with the LIGHT programming ON early Sunday evening and OFF Sunday evening at 23.30 hours, the light turns off, but is on again Monday morning.
Solution: Replace S/W with service S/W, part 8342407.
The S/W has not been implemented in the production.
Improved IR transmit/receive facility (two-way communication) of Beomaster 4500 when the unit is hanging on the wall.
Besides having an IR transmitter/receiver situated on the front panel the Beomaster 4500 has now been improved by the installation of an additional IR transmitter/receiver that operateds through the display glass.
This additional IR transmitter/receiver has been introduced from serial no. 08682954.
On a service basis the improvement can also be obtained by replacing the following components:
- Operation PCB (module 06) 8001106
- IR receiver PCB (module 05) 8001392
- Display glass (pos. 9011) 3168782
In units with a serial number higher than 08499834 it is not necessary to replace the display glass (pos. 9011). -->
